The game starts off after Hitman 1. To give you an idea on what is the game about: You are Tobias Reiper, a Genetically Modified Superhuman meant to assassinate and kill people. The organisation, 'The Agency' gives you the infomation on whom to kill. This game can stand alone in the story as he tells his story to the minister of the church he's working in. In the starting, he works as a gardener for a church in Sicily. But when the minister and mentor was captured by the Mafia, Tobias goes through a long journey to discover and get the minister back. Filled with plot twists, you'll be playing this game for quite sometime.
You'll be doing some travelling in the game, going to exotic locations from St. Petersburg in Russia, The Petronas Twin Towers of Malaysia or a snowy palace in Japan. Each gives a whole new gameplay and tatics to complete every objective.
You are given minimal weapons in the start, but you can build up your arsenal as you bring back guns from missions. There are over 20 real-life guns avaliable to choose from, from AK47 to Silenced Pistols to Crossbow to the handy Kitchen Knife for swift slicing or the silent Fibre Wire for all your choking needs. But choose wisely, you must conceal your small weapons or drop your rifle so as not to attract suspicion and unwanted attention. You also can take the clothes from downed or dead male enemies to disguise yourself as one of 'them'. But some of them carry weapons and if you are carrying a wrong weapon would get you in really big trouble. ( for example, they carry a brown & black rifle and you carry a huge black sniper rifle )
You can't go in like Rambo, killing everyone. This game emphasise on Stealth gameplay ( and anyway, you'll get killed as you are outnumbered in every level ) and lots of tatical gameplay.
Hitman 1 amazed us with its stunning graphics and 'ragdoll' physics, where enemies die by slumping on to the ground than falling to an animation. The cloth physics also amazed us as it sways in the wind and folds like real fabric. In Hitman 2, it is improved. The ragdolls look like real people and the cloth have better appearance.
But not all games are perfect, and Hitman 2 is the same. Lousy and cheating AI is a problem in wide open spaces like a Sniper that can see through your disguise 500 metres away. It takes 1/4 of the game is the most annoying thing in the game.
Graphics: 10
The graphics in Hitman 1 amazed us. The graphics in Hitman 2 amazed us even more when the game supports full FSAA and dynamic lighting. Shadows look real, guns insanely deatailed and humans that move like humans. The barcode on the back of the Hitman's head is just nothing compared to the amount of detail put in each mission. The weather effect too is very beautiful. This game proves that a very intensively detailed game can still be fun and playable. The blood effect seems to be too much but really look bloody brilliant.
Sound: 10
Wonderful voice acting. Everyone speaks in their language and not all speak in English. Sounds are excellent and Jesper Kyd composed a selection of very stunning music, especially the Main Title. The music matches perfectly in every mission.
Replayablity: 7
Being creative with killing is very fun. But some levels are painfully long and you wouldn't want to play that level anymore. Some levels are also too easy to get the 'Silent Assassin' Rating. But don't let the difficulty get you down, this game is extraordinaryly fun to play and exercises creative thinking plus problem solving.
Reviewer's Opinion: 8
An long and thrilling storyline, many ways to kill and powerful graphics is the formula for an outstanding came. This game came short of it. The story is rather good but the missions are far too little. EIDOS! Release a mission creator! I need more missions!
